How SF Giants enjoyed unintended benefit from Friday's rain-shortened win
The Giants' six-inning, 9-1 win over the New York Yankees on Friday night wasn't a pleasant experience for any parties involved — fans, players or otherwise. Following Thursday's off day, manager Bob Melvin only had to use starter Robbie Ray and reliever Spencer Bivens on Friday, the latter throwing just one inning. With San Francisco just beginning a stretch of 17 games in 17 days, Melvin said it was “huge” for his bullpen to get a blow.
San Francisco Giants 'Best Defensive Catcher in Baseball' Provides Incredible Value
The San Francisco Giants have gotten off to a wonderful start in the 2025 MLB regular season with a 10-4 record out of the gate. Overall, the offense has not been great, but the Giants are receiving timely hitting from their guys and a few positional players are massively outperforming expectations. Leading the way on that front is outfielders Jung Hoo Lee and Mike Yastrzemski. The two combined for 14 extra-base hits, with Lee leading the MLB with seven doubles entering play on Saturday.
Cody Bellinger’s bat, Will Warren’s sharp start fuel Yankees' 8-4 victory vs. Giants
Cody Bellinger had run into bad luck of late. The Yankees center fielder missed two games at the beginning of the month when his lower back tightened up — an issue he’s dealt with from time to time. He sat out again on Tuesday when a batch of room-service chicken wings in Detroit left him with food poisoning. Bellinger entered Saturday with three hits in his last 31 at-bats, dropping his ...
Big fifth inning carries Yankees past Giants
April 12 - Cody Bellinger hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the fifth inning, when the New York Yankees scored five runs en route to an 8-4 victory over the visiting San Francisco Giants on Saturday afternoon in rainy conditions. Bellinger also hit an RBI triple in the first inning before ripping a single to center field off San Francisco's Jordan Hicks (1-1) to snap a 2-2 tie in the fifth. Paul Goldschmidt lifted a sacrifice fly in the first before hitting a fifth-inning ground-rule double to right that scored Aaron Judge. Ben Rice homered in the sixth and scored on Bellinger's single in the fifth. Anthony Volpe hit a sacrifice fly and Jasson Dominguez added a two-run single in New York's big

A strong start from Will Warren and a five-run fifth inning, though, gave them a boost in an 8-4 win over the Giants and the Yankees will look to win the series Sunday at the Stadium. Yankees vs. Giants: What's the weather forecast for Saturday's game?
The Yankees have only themselves to blame for Friday night's treacherous loss to the Giants, played in a Bronx monsoon that risked injuries to every player who stepped on the swampy Yankee Stadium field. The Yankees should have postponed the game before it started. Instead, the Yankees took a 9-1 loss and added to their reputation of squeezing every dollar they can from their fans. The start of Friday's game was delayed 26 minutes and a silly half-hour rain delay prolonged the inevitable before it was finally ended.

Giants seek to extend blistering start in clash vs. Yankees
Hours before the San Francisco Giants continued their best start since 2003 at Yankee Stadium, manager Bob Melvin made lineup changes by moving Mike Yastrzemski up to the leadoff slot and switching LaMonte Wade Jr. from leadoff to sixth. The move worked out for the Giants, who will attempt to maintain their strong start Saturday afternoon when they visit the suddenly struggling New York Yankees. At 10-3, the Giants are off to their best 13-game start since the 2003 team bolted out to a 13-1 record and won 15 of its first 17 contests. The Giants used Wade for nine games at leadoff but he batted .125, while Yastrzemski hit well while batting lower in the lineup.
Boone: `Probably the worst conditions we've ever experienced' in Yankees' loss to Giants
Yankees manager Aaron Boone, after speaking with bench coach Brad Ausmus, didn't mince words about what they had just seen New York and the San Francisco Giants endure. “That's probably the worst conditions we've ever experienced and we've been doing this for a long time,” Boone said. On a cold night when play started after a 26-minute delay, umpires suspended the game with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning, then called it after the minimum 30-minute wait. San Francisco had burst to a 5-0, first-inning lead and went on to a 9-1 victory.
