SF Giants bats wake up late, provide Snell just enough support to split final Bay Bridge series
The Giants had every reason to play desperate Sunday. It took more than that — and an extra inning — but the Giants got just enough from their feeble offense to earn a split in the final Bay Bridge series. The very first pitch out of Dany Jiménez's right hand to begin the 10th inning found a landing spot over the Xfinity sign in right-center field and gave the Giants their first lead in a 4-2 win. Jerar Encarnacion jumped on the letter-high fastball and, with Matt Chapman as the automatic runner at second base, provided the Giants' first hit with a runner in scoring position all weekend.

The Oakland A's and San Francisco Giants faced off in final Bay Bridge Series game
A rivalry that began in the best possible setting: the World Series. Since that World Series, as it had the strong earthquake that shook San Francisco in the middle, baseball in the Bay Area not only won a high-carat rivalry, but the presence of two great franchises. The A'S will move to Sacramento next season while they make their three-year transition and then land in Las Vegas. The series that was played on August 17 and 18, 2024 was the last of the "Bay Bridge" and to give it a more nostalgic touch, it was at the Oakland Coliseum.
San Francisco Giants Rookie Named to 'All-Overpaid' MLB Team
The start of the season for the San Francisco Giants didn't go as planned for many reasons. While they've figured it out a bit in recent months, their early season struggles are the reason the Giants are four games out in the National League Wild Card. There's still time to catch the teams ahead of them, but it'll take a team effort for San Francisco to complete the task. Of those is left-handed hitter Jung Hoo Lee, who got injured after playing in just 37 games.
How longtime A's manager Bob Melvin said farewell to Oakland Coliseum
It was about a quarter after 7 Sunday morning when the all-time winningest manager in the history of the Coliseum pulled into the parking lot for the final time. “Bright and early,” Bob Melvin said. In between interviews with both teams' flagship radio stations, Melvin was asked if he wanted to hit ground balls to Matt Chapman on the dirt they shared for five years, but he couldn't find the time. It was a less familiar viewing angle than the one from the opposite side of the field, where Melvin won 853 of the 1,617 games he managed from 2011-2021 as the longest-tenured skipper in the A's 56-year history in Oakland.

Bay Bridge Series finale: Oakland A's, SF Giants fans lament end of Bay-based rivalry
With two hours remaining until first pitch Sunday, the Oakland Coliseum parking lot featured the familiar sights and sounds of a party in the East Bay. “I came here early and there's actually a great amount of people here already,” said Jesse Aiwaz after he made the drive from Modesto to East Oakland. There were neon green jerseys, “SELL” paraphernalia and vibrant orange as far as the eye could see as fans filled their time before the last Bay Bridge Series between host Oakland and visiting San Francisco. The A's will play in Sacramento next season, a fact that caused some mild confusion in the parking lot.
Another San Francisco Giants Superstar Expected to Opt-Out of Contract
It's been an interesting week for the San Francisco Giants. They have gone 5-5 in their last 10 games, the story of their season, and sit 4.0 games out of a wild card spot. San Francisco also learned that superstar third baseman Matt Chapman will also opt-out of his three-year, $54 million contract after just his first year as well according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale. Snell, having signed during spring training, was always likely to opt-out of his contract, especially if he had a strong season.

San Francisco Giants Ace Will Opt-Out of Contract After Just One Year with Team
The San Francisco Giants will once again be using their winter looking for a bonafide ace to take the reins and help lead the franchise to another postseason berth, and hopefully, another World Series. It has been a rough 2024 MLB season for Snell who began the year posting an 0-3 record with an 11.57 ERA in the month of April.
End of a Bay Area era: Giants, A's likely play final game as neighbors
When Major League Baseball began including interleague matchups in the regular season in 1997, the Bay Bridge Series between the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics came to life. On Sunday, the teams are expected to meet for the final time as neighbors -- the Giants will cross the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge for one last meeting with the Oakland A's. After this season, the A's intend to vacant the old Coliseum they've called home since 1968 and head 80 miles to Sacramento, where they'll make a temporary home for a planned three seasons while the team's new stadium is being built in Las Vegas. Oakland won Saturday's game 2-0, the opener of a brief two-game series.
