Deadspin | Osvaldo Bido shines again as A's silence Giants
Osvaldo Bido took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, Seth Brown stroked three hits and the host Oakland Athletics blanked the rival San Francisco Giants 2-0 on Saturday. Scott Alexander, Grant Holman, T.J. McFarland and Michel Otanez completed Oakland's 10th shutout of the season by combining for three innings of relief, helping the A's guarantee themselves of at least a split in their four-game season series with the Giants.
Osvaldo Bido shuts down Giants as A's take Bay Bridge Series game 2-0
Oakland right-hander Osvaldo Bido retired the first 14 San Francisco batters in order and carried a no-hit bid into the sixth inning, shutting down the Giants as the Athletics won 2-0 Saturday in the second-to-last game of the Bay Bridge Series. Bido's bid ended when he gave up Grant McCray’s one-out infield single in the sixth on which the ball traveled about two feet at 67.3 mph off the bat. The 28-year-old Bido (4-3) did not allow a baserunner until Mike Yastrezemski drew a two-out walk in the fifth inning.
SF Giants avoid ignominious history, still can't crack scoreboard in loss to A's
The good news is the Giants didn't make any unfortunate history in the penultimate Battle of the Bay. The bad news was just about everything else about their offense in a 2-0 loss to the Athletics, which sent them back below .500 (62-63) and another game back in the National League wild card race (3½ behind Atlanta, still yet to play). In front of one of the largest Coliseum crowds expected before the A's leave for Sacramento after this season, journeyman right-hander Osvaldo Bido nearly treated the split-allegiance 37,551 on hand to the first no-hitter in the teams' 147 meetings since the A's made this a two-team market in 1968. It took a swinging bunt and one of the fastest dashes up the first-base line by a Giants player this season to avoid the ignominious distinction.
San Francisco Giants Rookie Looks to Right Wrongs vs. Athletics on Saturday
The San Francisco Giants were able to break their losing streak on Friday against the Atlanta Braves and will look to start a winning streak as they start a two-game series with the Oakland Athletics on Saturday night. The Giants lost four games in a row before Friday's win. If San Francisco can take advantage of an Athletics squad that has the third-worst record in MLB with a sweep, they'll be feeling much better about their odds. Tyler Fitzgerald has continued to be a huge source of offense for the team through their struggles, so they will be looking to him to keep the hits coming.

San Francisco Giants Named Possible Destination for Star Free Agent
The San Francisco Giants are a team that many expect to be very aggressive during the upcoming offseason. While they could get involved in the Soto sweepstakes, they're not likely to win them. If they do miss on him, there is a good chance that the Giants would pivot to other star free agents. One name to keep an eye on could be Houston Astros star impending free agent third baseman Alex Bregman.
Giants fan 'McCovey Cove Dave' in spat with Braves over unreturned splash hit grand slam ball
One San Francisco Giants fan has gotten under the skin of the Atlanta Braves for refusing to return a meaningful splash hit home run ball to Michael Harris II. Dave Edlund, known as “McCovey Cove Dave” retrieved the ball Harris hit for his first career grand slam and just the fourth grand slam ever into the famed San Francisco Bay outside Oracle Park in the top of the first inning during the Braves-Giants game on Wednesday night. 4 Dave Edlund, known as “McCovey Cove Dave”, retrieves Michael Harris's grand slam on Tuesday. San Francisco Giants Named Top 10 Landing Spot for New York Yankees Slugger
The San Francisco Giants have been superstar-hunting throughout the past few offseasons. Carlos Correa also agreed to a $350 million deal before the Giants backed out due to a medical concern. There will be perhaps a bigger star than Judge and Correa on the market this year. Juan Soto of the New York Yankees hits free agency unless he gets a deal done within the next few months, and he's projected to land a $500-plus million contract.

A's, Giants to square off in final Bay Bridge series this weekend
The San Francisco Giants and Oakland A's will square off in one final Bay Bridge series this weekend. The name Bay Bridge series was first coined in 1989, when the two storied franchises, that are separated by just the Bay Bridge and a stretch of I-880, met in the 1989 World Series. Game three of the World Series became deeply woven into the history of the Bay Area. A 6.9 earthquake shook San Francisco before the first pitch was thrown.
MLB Insider Expects San Francisco Giants' Star To Get Big-Time Contract
The San Francisco Giants are still alive when it comes to the MLB postseason race. Matt Chapman has been a big part of keeping them alive. At the very least, he could opt out of his current deal and try to get a more lucrative contract to stay in San Francisco. MLB insider Jim Bowden recently weighed in on Chapman's potential future.
MLB Rumors: Blake Snell Linked to Padres in FA if Giants Star Rejects Contract Option
Blake Snell could return to the San Diego Padres in free agency following the 2024 season. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Snell is "almost sure" to decline his $30 million player option with the San Francisco Giants this offseason. San Diego was also one of several teams to "inquire" about Snell's availability prior to the July 30 trade deadline, per Heyman.
