Different game, same result: SF Giants fall in extras again to Braves
For two straight nights, the Braves and Giants have played in a playoff-like atmosphere. In the series opener, San Francisco was a hit or two shy of rewarding Blake Snell for his masterpiece. Tuesday, it was more of the same: the Giants went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position on Monday and 0-for-10 in the same situation in the second game of the series. Chasing a run in the 10th, just like they were on Monday, the Giants tried to bunt the placed runner over but failed.
Chicago Cubs’ offense finally showing consistency — and prospect Brennen Davis’ season is likely over
CLEVELAND — If the Chicago Cubs are going to get on the type of roll that has eluded them too often this season, now is the time to continue stacking wins. The Cubs entered Tuesday having won 10 of their last 15 games, tied for the fourth-best record in MLB since July 27 behind Arizona (13-3, .813 winning percentage), San Diego (11-3, .786), San Francisco (11-5, .688) and tied with the Yankees ...
In epic pitchers' duel, SF Giants' Blake Snell and Braves' Chris Sale epitomized modern baseball
Not only were pitching performances from Blake Snell and Chris Sale on Monday night at Oracle Park electric, they were also microcosms. Snell and Sale struck out 11 and 12, respectively, in Atlanta's 1-0 victory to open a key four-game series. Snell no-hit the Braves for six innings and Sale lasted an inning longer than the Giants' southpaw. For the first time since 2010, Oracle Park hosted a game in which both the Giants' starting pitcher and the starter opposite him each recorded at least 10 strikeouts.
Could San Francisco Giants Rising Star Play Himself Into Rookie of the Year Running?
Recently, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal talked about the tight National League Rookie of the Year race on his Fair Territory podcast. He spent several minutes talking about the three players he considered to be the best candidates for the award — San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill, Chicago Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga and Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes. All have strong cases for the award. Rosenthal didn't provide a prediction. But, he said, to avoid backlash, he provided three other names that could be deserving of the award, depending upon how things go the rest of the season. Another Cubs player, first baseman Michael Busch, made the list. So did Milwaukee's Jackson Chourio.

Writer Has Bleak Outlook for San Francisco Giants to Make MLB Postseason
The MLB playoff races look like they are going to go right down to the wire. One of the teams who have forced themselves into the mix in the National League is the San Francisco Giants. Two weeks ago, right ahead of the MLB trade deadline, the Giants' season was on the brink of extinction. Jorge Soler and Luke Jackson ended up with the Atlanta Braves, while Alex Cobb was traded to the Cleveland Guardians.

San Francisco Giants Announce Three Injury Rehab Starts for Sacramento
The San Francisco Giants may have some reinforcements coming soon, as three injured players are set to rehab at Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, per multiple reports. Pitcher Tristan Beck is expected to be in three innings, while pitcher Tyler Matzek and infielder Thairo Estrada will begin rehab assignments. Beck has been on the 60-day injured list all season after he was diagnosed with a upper right arm aneurysm in February. Tuesday's game with the River Cats will be his second rehab game.

Braves, Giants aim to wake up bats in rematch
The Atlanta Braves and host San Francisco Giants hope to get their offenses back in high gear when they meet again on Tuesday, one night after a classic pitchers' duel. Braves right-hander Charlie Morton (6-7, 4.47 ERA) and Giants lefty Kyle Harrison (6-5, 4.08) will be tasked with the near-impossible in the rematch -- duplicating the efforts of Chris Sale and Blake Snell, respectively. Sale and Snell combined for 13 1/3 shutout innings in the series opener, a game that required extra innings in order for the first -- and only -- run to score.
