Adding Yankees Slugger Would Give San Francisco Giants New Face of the Franchise
The San Francisco Giants have had a disappointing 2024 season, and this offseason they will be looking to improve the roster to compete in a challenging National League West next season. While it wasn't a great year once again for the Giants, this offseason will once again provide them with some opportunities to get better. This is the third year in a row now that San Francisco has missed the playoffs, and some things might change soon for the franchise. Since the Giants have been hovering around .500 for three years, they need to make some changes, and that perhaps has started this season.
Blake Snell declines to make final SF Giants start, shifts focus to free agency
With the season winding down, the Giants have allowed a few players head home early. Wilmer Flores, Tom Murphy and Mason Black all weren't going to see the field again this year and have cleaned out had their lockers. In front of Blake Snell's locker, a pile of cardboard moving boxes towered over the 6-foot-4 left-hander as he met with reporters Saturday morning and discussed his decision not to make his final start of the season, his looming opt out and the free agency expected to follow. Snell was scheduled to start the Giants' penultimate game of the season Saturday against the Cardinals but was scratched late Friday night and replaced by Tristan Beck.

How Ryan Helsley turned 'obligation' of classic closer role into Cardinals' record 49 saves
Ryan Helsley steered his truck toward the exit of the Cardinals' spring training parking lot last March when he paused to talk with a reporter, do some quick math, and describe just what was possible if he got a chance to add up a season, one ninth inning at a time. With a scoreless ninth inning against the San Francisco Giants to finish an 6-3 victory, Helsley collected his 49th save of the season.
Downfall of San Francisco Giants Pitcher the 'Biggest Shocker' in 2024 Season
There were a lot of things that didn't go well for the San Francisco Giants during the 2024 season. The only move that truly panned out was third baseman Matt Chapman. Blake Snell was solid after returning from a second injured list stint in July, but the other moves were all duds. While the performances of Jorge Soler and Robbie Ray left a lot to be desired, it paled in comparison to what happened with All-Star relief pitcher Camilo Doval.
San Francisco Giants Are MLB's Biggest Disappointment in 2024
The San Francisco Giants are wrapping up the season on a nice roll. The Giants were 2024's Most Disappointing Team. Really, the only competition comes from the Rangers, but you know Bruce Bochy takes a siesta every season after winning a championship; the Rays, who finally played down to their talent level; and the Cubs and Red Sox, just because their names are permanently etched on the list. En route to their third straight non-winning season after a 107-win campaign had them primed to be the 2020s Team of the Decade, the Giants were such a disaster in 2024, even the things that went right went wrong.
Giants' Tristan Beck, not Blake Snell, starts vs. Cards
Blake Snell's abbreviated season with the San Francisco Giants apparently is coming to a premature end. Snell, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, was due to start Saturday in the next-to-last contest of the year against the visiting Cardinals. The Cardinals (82-78) will counter with right-hander Andre Pallante, attempting to cap his first full season as mostly a starter with a third consecutive stellar outing. Snell was signed in March with the intention of joining Logan Webb to become one of baseball's most potent 1-2 combinations as the Giants (79-81) sought to reach the postseason for the first time since 2021.

SF Giants must win out to finish .500 after loss to Cardinals
Jerar Encarnacion homered and the San Francisco Giants earned an early lead, but rookie starter Landen Roupp had an uncharacteristic blow-up, pitting San Francisco in too deep a deficit. While playing from behind, the Giants squandered a couple chances, then couldn't create any more during the late innings in a 6-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. To finish .500 on the season, the Giants (79-81) must win each of their final two games at Oracle Park. Mathematically eliminated from the postseason, the Giants have played their best ball of late.
