Blake Snell gets 12 Ks as Giants blank skidding Orioles 10-0
BALTIMORE -- - Blake Snell struck out 12 over six innings and allowed just one hit to carry the San Francisco Giants past the faltering Baltimore Orioles 10-0 on Tuesday night. The Orioles have lost seven of nine to fall 3 1/2 games behind the first-place Yankees in the AL East, pending New York's game later Tuesday night at Seattle. Baltimore held a half-game lead on Sept. 5 before its current tailspin, during which it has been outscored 46-18. Colton Cowser had two of the Orioles' five hits in their most lopsided shutout loss of the season.
Three takeaways as SF Giants rout Orioles, 10-0, behind masterful Blake Snell
The beauty of the San Francisco Giants' remaining schedule is that, even if they've fallen out of contention, the team on the other side is playing with real postseason implications at stake. On their first visit to Camden Yards since 2019, it wasn't such an exciting proposition for the Baltimore Orioles, who are still jostling with the Yankees for the American League East and ran into a 6-foot-4, 225-pound buzzsaw Tuesday night. Blake Snell had everything working over six shutout innings as the Giants (73-79) began their final road trip with a 10-0 win, snapping a four-game losing streak and avoiding falling further under .500 than they had been all season. Dotting the strike zone with fastballs in the upper 90s, making batters look foolish with a sharp slider and mixing in a darting changeup, Snell struck out 12, racked up 22 swings and misses, and didn't allow a hit after Emmanuel Rivera's soft single in the second inning.

WATCH: San Francisco Giants Outfielder Hits Leadoff HR in Opener vs Orioles
The San Francisco Giants are looking to snap a four-game losing streak. On the second pitch of the evening, Giants right fielder Mike Yastrzemski hit his 16th home run of the season. The leadoff homer for Yastremski was his third long ball in the last seven games. It has an exit velocity of 104 mph.
How to Watch San Francisco Giants and Orioles Tuesday, Channel, Stream and Lineups
The San Francisco Giants will begin a three-game series on the road with the Baltimore Orioles. After Sunday's loss in the series finale to the San Diego Padres in extra innings, the Giants recorded their fourth loss in a row and brought their record to 72-78, six games under .500. San Francisco will turn to Blake Snell (3-3, 3.52) for a solid start on Tuesday. The left-hander is coming off a five-inning, 95-pitch performance against the Milwaukee Brewers, where he was awarded his third win of the season.
San Francisco Urged To Move On From Previously Elite Closer in Offseason
There haven't been many positives for the 72-78 San Francisco Giants during the 2024 campaign. The Giants' struggles are, in large part, due to that. Right-hander Camilo Doval perfectly fits that description. At points throughout his career, there was a strong argument that Doval was on pace to be one of the better relief pitchers in Major League Baseball someday.
Could San Francisco Giants Finally Move on From Zaidi After Recent Negotiations?
The San Francisco Giants have a big decision to make, and they don't have much time. Is it time to move on from President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi? It isn't a new thought that the top executive in the Giants front office is on the hot seat. Although the initial expectation that the Giants would remain with the same people in charge after making an aggressive contract extension with third baseman Matt Chapman, recent reports of how the deal got finalized is beginning to raise questions on who is actually in control in the front office.

Three Intriguing Free Agents the San Francisco Giants Should Consider
The San Francisco Giants will head into the offseason with the goal of making enough moves to get back into contention in 2025. After another disappointing all-around season, the Giants simply didn't have enough talent to make the postseason. Matt Chapman was signed to a lucrative extension as well, keeping him from having the opportunity to leave in free agency. Blake Snell will likely hit free agency, but it seems very possible that San Francisco could find a way to re-sign him and bring him back as well.
San Francisco Giants are Focusing on a Key Detail Late in the Season
In what's been a frustrating season for the San Francisco Giants, both offensively and from an injury standpoint, there has been one thing bugging Bob Melvin: fundamentals on defense. The Giants brought in Matt Chapman to be the anchor at third and Jung Hoo Lee to do the same in centerfield. Lee has been out for the majority of the season, which is what began the trend of San Francisco having players out of position. One player emblematic of this is Marco Luciano.
