SF Giants embarrassed by Padres in third straight shutout loss
Before the Giants hosted the Padres Saturday night, Bob Melvin was asked about the chase for history taking place on the other side. Luis Arráez put the ball in play all six of his times to the plate, running his streak without striking out to 135 plate appearances, dating back to August 10. Tony Gwynn once came to the plate 170 times between strikeouts, and Dave Cash holds the expansion-era record with 223 straight plate appearances in 1976. “The way he's swinging right now,” Melvin admired, “he's up there taking pitches (inches) off the plate last night and if you throw it on the plate, he puts the barrel on it.”

After rapid rise to Triple-A, when could SF Giants see first-round pick Bryce Eldridge in the big leagues?
When the Giants broke camp this spring, the only expectations they had for their most recent top draft pick in his first full season of professional baseball was to “get him out there, get him up to speed and get him adjusted,” farm director Kyle Haines said in March. Safe to say, Bryce Eldridge has blown past that forecast and put himself on another pedestal of prospect status. In just over a year since being drafted 16th overall out of Madison High School in Vienna, Virginia, Eldridge has moved through four levels of the minor leagues, from Single-A San Jose, to High-A Eugene, a brief homecoming for Double-A Richmond and now, for the final week of the minor-league season, with the River Cats.

San Francisco Giants Superstar Prospect Promoted Again
With the minor league season coming to a close, the San Francisco Giants decided to promote their top prospect, Bryce Eldridge, to Triple-A, according to ESPN's Kiley McDaniel. This comes after the Double-A season ended and the Giants wanted to continue to get the youngster some at-bats. Eldridge was just recently promoted from High-A to Double-A on Sept. 3.
Giants call up top prospect after just 9 Double-A games
The San Francisco Giants currently sit in fourth place in the NL West, 15.5 games behind rivals and division leaders the Los Angeles Dodgers. After resigning third baseman Matt Chapman to a long-term extension, President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi and the front office made another move Saturday. The team promoted two-way star Bryce Eldridge to Triple-A, according to ESPN's Kiley McDaniel on X, formerly Twitter. “After playing 9 games in Double-A, the Giants are promoting top prospect 1B Bryce Eldridge to Triple-A, per source,” McDaniel reported on the social media site.
Former SF Giants Star Pablo Sandoval Set to Pitch in Independent League
Pablo Sandoval put together quite the storied MLB career, winning three World Series championships with the San Francisco Giants, but his playing days aren't over just yet. The 38-year-old third baseman is still hanging around in the independent Atlantic League, suiting up for the Staten Island FerryHawks in 2024. In 119 games this season, Sandoval has hit .248 with 10 home runs, 78 RBI and a .677 OPS. This weekend, however, Sandoval is set to do something he has never done before in his entire professional career.
Fernando Tatis Jr. on a tear as Padres visit Giants
Fernando Tatis Jr. will continue the pursuit of his third consecutive 20-home run season when the San Diego Padres go for a second straight road win over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night. Tatis followed a game-opening single by Luis Arraez with his 17th homer in a three-run first inning against Giants All-Star Logan Webb in Friday's 5-0 win. The 25-year-old Tatis, who belted 22 homers as a rookie in 2019, has missed reaching the 20-homer mark just twice his career - during the COVID-shortened 2020 season, when he hit 17 in 59 games, and in 2022, when he sat out the entire season while injured and on suspension.

Tatís homers, Cease strikes out 10 as Padres blank Giants 5-0
Fernando Tatís Jr. hit a two-run homer, Dylan Cease struck out 10 in six shutout innings and the San Diego Padres beat the San Francisco Giants 5-0 on Friday night. The Padres are a half-game ahead of the Diamondbacks atop the National League wild card standings and 1 1/2 games in front of the Mets for the third and final wild card spot. The Giants have lost three of four and were shut out in back-to-back games for the first time this season.
SF Giants mathematically eliminated from NL West in Logan Webb's shortest start since May 5
In addition to getting another left-handed bat in the lineup against tough Padres righty Dylan Cease, the Giants wanted to maximize their infield defense behind Logan Webb, one of the most effective pitchers in the majors at keeping the ball on the ground. It was sound strategy to win that night's game but drew the ire of a fan base that has largely accepted the Giants' fate with just over a dozen games left this season and their club out of contention. In the end, the infield alignment hardly mattered as the Padres put the ball in the air, got to Webb early and sent the Giants to their second straight shutout loss, 5-0, that only further crystallized the disappointing outcome of their season.

‘It’s on my bucket list’: Dusty Baker meets fans at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sacramento at Fire Mountain
Jose Garcia admitted that he was quite nervous as he stood in line to meet Dusty Baker during the Dusty Baker meet-and-greet event at Wheatland’s Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sacramento at Fire Mountain. Jose and his partner, Darlene Garcia, traveled in from Stockton to shake hands with their first-ever baseball celebrity. It was quite the spectacle, as Jose Garcia noted, and he was anxious to get ...
