Roupp makes case to stay in Giants' rotation with first MLB start
After spending the majority of his rookie season in the Giants' bullpen, Landen Roupp finally made his first career start in the majors on Tuesday night against the Milwaukee Brewers. “It's more of like a routine for me,” Roupp said after his outing in San Francisco's 3-2 loss to Milwaukee at Oracle Park. Roupp was pressed into duty when the Giants opted to push Hayden Birdsong's turn in the rotation back a few days. Despite the late notice – Roupp was told on Monday that he would be starting – the 26-year-old got off to a bit of a shaky start in the first inning when he gave up hits to four of Milwaukee's first five batters, leading to two runs.
Contreras has 3 hits, Mitchell homers and Brewers beat Giants 3-2
William Contreras had three hits and drove in a run, Garrett Mitchell hit a home run and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Francisco Giants 3-2 on Tuesday night. Aaron Civale (6-8) allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings, pitching well against the Giants after throwing seven shutout innings against them two weeks ago at home and improving to 4-2 since being traded to the Brewers from the Rays in July. “They came out a little aggressive on some pitches in the zone, (and I) just came back at them with some aggressive pitches of my own,” Civale said.
SF Giants send controversial City Connect uniforms out with a whimper in loss to Brewers
For the vitriol that they prompted from some portions of the fan base, and then the positive vibes that quickly became associated with them, the Giants' controversial City Connect uniforms went out with a whimper on an appropriately foggy Tuesday night. A tad more than 25,000 paying fans watched the Giants fall to the Brewers, 3-2, in the opening game of their series and their final time wearing the bright white and orange uniforms. The Giants brought the potential winning run to the plate against Brewers closer Devin Williams in the ninth, with Heliot Ramos representing the tying run on second base, but Tyler Fitzgerald struck out swinging, unable to tap into the powers of the uniforms that once acted as good-luck charms.

SF Giants injury notes: Tom Murphy reflects on 'tough' year, updates on Birdsong, Hicks, Ray
Since spraining a ligament in his left knee five weeks into the season, Tom Murphy has mostly been a ghost. Giving chase to a pitch in the dirt on a soggy May day in Philadelphia, Murphy felt a pop in his left knee and was given an initial diagnosis of a sprained MCL. More than four months later, Murphy has still not resumed catching and isn't expected back before the end of the season. The one time Murphy accompanied the team on the road since the injury was in Los Angeles after the All-Star break, making a brief cameo in the visitors' clubhouse at Dodger Stadium.

Melvin cites 'risk' of Giants parting with fabled City Connect jerseys
There wasn't much of a reaction among players and coaches regarding the Giants' decision to ditch their current City Connect jerseys for the remainder of the 2024 MLB season, with plans to make a newer version for 2025. Team spokesperson Shauna Daum confirmed to SFGATE that Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Oracle Park is the last time that San Francisco's players will don the jerseys, which have frequently been referred to as looking like a Creamsicle.
Report: Zaidi, Melvin contracts guaranteed through 2025, not 2026
Giants manager Bob Melvin and president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi were believed to have contracts that ran through the 2026 MLB season. Melvin and Zaidi have guaranteed contracts that only run through the 2025 MLB season, The San Francisco Chronicle's John Shea reported Tuesday, citing industry sources. This news runs counter to what the Giants seemingly announced when Melvin was introduced as their new manager on Oct. 25, 2023.
San Francisco Giants Predicted To Have Two New York Players on Opening Day Roster
The San Francisco Giants offense has been average throughout the campaign, a big factor in why they're essentially out of the playoff race. If the Giants had swung the bat at a higher level, things would've likely been different. It won't be an easy fix, as many hitters around Major League Baseball have shown their unwillingness to play in San Francisco due to the stadium. Oracle Park is one of the least hitter-friendly ballparks in the league, so it's tough to attract big-name free agents.

San Francisco Giants Star Named Finalist for Prestigious MLB Award
San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski knows all about legacy. On Monday, 34-year-old native of Andover, Mass., was named one of 30 finalists for the Roberto Clemente Award, one of baseball's most prestigious individual awards. If he wins the award he would join Giants legend Willie Mays, who won the inaugural award in 1971, which was before the award was re-named for Clemente. It would also put him one-up on grand-dad, as Carl Yastrzemski, a former Triple Crown winner and member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, never won the award.

Giants' 2 early free agent targets in 2024 MLB offseason
As September gets going, the San Francisco Giants are in real danger of finishing their third consecutive season without a winning record. At 71-73, they're technically not out of the playoff race, but suffice it to say things have not gone as expected for a team that brought in Blake Snell, Matt Chapman, and Robbie Ray in the offseason. Staring down another long winter, Giants fans can take comfort in the age-old saying: There's always next year. Every team looking to contend is going to at least inquire about Juan Soto.
San Francisco Giants Manager Speaks on Reprimanding of Young Hitter
The San Francisco Giants series finale against the San Diego Padres was an eventful one. Based on how post-game coverage was done, you would have never known that the Giants actually came away with a 7-6 victory. The main focus post-game was on the miscommunication between shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald and second baseman Marco Luciano. Two runs scored as a result of the miscue and Jurickson Profar, who hit the pop-up, took second base as the young middle infielders compounded their error by not covering second base.
