Giants successful in first look at MLB's ABS system
The ABS system does something interesting to a ballpark. On Saturday, that meant just about everyone missed Sam Huff's reaction. As the Giants got a call overturned in the first inning, Huff turned to the home dugout at Surprise Stadium and shot finger guns at some former teammates. It was a fun moment for the catcher, who was drafted by the Rangers in 2016 and spent time in the big leagues each of the past three seasons.
Watch: San Francisco Giants Top Prospect Slams Spring Training Home Run
For the San Francisco Giants, Bryce Eldridge is the future at first base. The 2023 first-round pick is participating in his first Major League spring training, but he is not expected to make the opening-day roster, as he only has a smattering of Triple-A at-bats. On Saturday the Giants opened their spring training schedule on the road at the Texas Rangers in Surprise, Ariz. He didn't start the game and entered midway through as a pinch-hitter for designated hitter LaMonte Wade Jr. Late in the game, during his second spring at-bat, Eldridge turned everyone's heads with his first spring training home run.
SF Giants' Lee singles, flashes leather in first game in nine months
Jung Hoo Lee doesn't quite have his swagger back. The San Francisco Giants' Cactus League opener against the Texas Rangers represented Lee's first game since May 12, 2024, the day that Lee barreled into the wall at Oracle Park and suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. For Lee, his abbreviated afternoon provided him with a step in the right direction.
Eldridge makes loud statement in first Giants spring training game
The Giants have tried their best over the past two weeks to slow the Bryce Eldridge Hype Train. The organization's top prospect is not a candidate to make the Opening Day roster, and behind the scenes, there are discussions about whether it makes sense to send him back to Double-A Richmond since he spent just nine games there last year before finishing up with eight in Triple-A. The defense at first base is a work in progress, and he is likely to mostly be a DH when he shows up in spring games. Giants officials hope Eldridge debuts later this year, but won't commit to it. In his second at-bat in a spring training game, Eldridge hit a homer to dead center, sending a jolt through the dugout and announcing his arrival in the loudest possible way.
San Francisco Giants Reveal Starting Pitching Plans for Upcoming Spring Games
The San Francisco Giants will run out two of their starting pitchers during their home opener on Sunday against Cincinnati in Scottsdale, Ariz. It's part of a plan to get several of their starting pitchers some early work as they gear up for the regular season. Webb has already been named the opening day starter for the fourth straight year. Last season he made his first All-Star Game appearance in July and was sixth in National League Cy Young voting.
'The stance looks good': How SF Giants' Wade tweaked mechanics to unlock more power
When LaMonte Wade Jr. sustained a hamstring injury in May, he never truly regained the ability to get into his legs upon returning. The injury's lingering effects wasn most noticeable in his stance, forcing Wade to get more vertical than desired. Healthy again, Wade is getting low. “I'm just trying to be more into my legs,” Wade said.

'We did it right': How Krukow, Kuiper became voices of MVP Baseball 2005
Few contemporary sports video games enjoy a lasting shelf life. In the cases of Madden, MLB The Show and NBA 2K, fans often complain that every “new” game is the same as the previous year's title. It's for these reasons that MVP Baseball 2005, released 20 years ago today, so special. The final installment in the MVP Baseball series, MVP '05 is as old as Giants' top prospect Bryce Eldridge but still considered by many to be the best baseball video game of all-time — if not best sports game of all-time.
San Francisco Giants Would Pay Hefty Price to Pursue Future Free Agent Ace
This past offseason the San Francisco Giants showed they would be willing to pursue top-dollar free agents under first-year president of baseball operations Buster Posey. The Giants signed shortstop Willy Adames to a seven-year deal worth $182 million, the largest deal in team history. San Francisco was on pitcher Corbin Burnes, but he ended up signing a six-year deal worth $210 million.

With Spring Training underway for the San Francisco Giants, they will be hoping to see some improvements in 2025. As San Francisco prepares for the 2025 campaign, they made a couple of notable additions but also lost some players in free agency as well. The addition of slugging shortstop Willy Adames filled a big need not only in the field, but also in the batting order.

Webb named SF Giants' Opening Day starter for 4th straight season
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Logan Webb didn't find out he was going to be the San Francisco Giants' Opening Day starter from Bob Melvin. He, like many, learned the news from the television. “I was in the training room and I was getting ready for my bullpen today,” Webb said. “I glanced at the TV, it was on MLB Network: 'Logan Webb named starter.' (Dave Groeschner) was like, 'Oh, no one said anything?'” Melvin told reporters on Friday morning that Webb will be the Giants' Opening Day starter against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark on March 27, the fourth consecutive year that Webb has had the honor. “I never take this stuff for granted,” Webb said. Giants' Justin Verlander reveals eye-opening Nolan Ryan motivation
Justin Verlander turned 42 years old on Thursday, which for many athletes, would signal that a turbulent season lies ahead. As he gets set for his 20th MLB campaign, and the first as a member of the San Francisco Giants, Verlander remains ambitious as ever. The aging right-handed starting pitcher uses the unmatched durability of his childhood hero, Nolan Ryan, as inspiration during his own twilight years. Although he has nothing set in stone, Verlander has always envisioned himself playing to a similar age.
Webb set for fourth consecutive Giants Opening Day start
Logan Webb was in the trainer's room on Friday morning, getting ready for the day's workout, when he saw his name flash across the bottom of a TV screen that was tuned to MLB Network. It wasn't a surprise to Webb, who already knew his entire Cactus League schedule, which would lead him up to March 27 in Cincinnati. "He's our guy," manager Bob Melvin said. Managers almost always call the ace in at some point in the spring to make it official, but Melvin didn't have that chance before he let the news slip to reporters during his morning session.

Webb named SF Giants' Opening Day starter for 4th straight season

Melvin understands he doesn't really need to have that conversation with his ace. “He knows,” Melvin said with a smile.
