San Francisco Giants Continue Extension Discussions with Star Infielder
The San Francisco Giants signed third baseman Matt Chapman before the 2024 season to a three year, $54 million deal to bolster the lineup. It has been reported, the Giants and Chapman are in ongoing discussions about an extension. On Tuesday, the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser revealed that she had conversations about the situation with both Chapman's agent, Scott Boras, and president of baseball operations, Farhan Zaidi.
Former Philadelphia Phillies Catching Prospect Signs Deal with NL West Rival
Andrew Knapp, a former Philadelphia Phillies second-round pick and catching prospect, signed a Major League deal with the San Francisco Giants on Friday. The Giants slid Knapp, 32, into the starting lineup for their game with the Seattle Mariners. Knapp hasn't played for the Phillies since 2021. He played five seasons before he was outrighted by the Phillies after that season. Since then he's been hanging on the fringes of the game. He landed with the Cincinnati Reds to start the 2022 season but didn't make the team. He played a combined 16 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates , the Mariners and the Giants in 2022. After the Giants released him in late 2022, he signed minor-league deals with the
Former San Francisco Giants Reliever Designated for Assignment Again
Mike Baumann's time with the San Francisco Giants was brief. The Los Angeles Angels designated him the right-handed reliever for assignment on Friday night, per the MLB transactions wire. The Angels made the move to call up reliever Ryan Zeferjahn from Triple-A Salt Lake. Baumann landed with the Giants on July 22 in a trade with the Seattle Mariners.
San Francisco Giants Recall Struggling Closer to MLB Roster
The San Francisco Giants are ready to give their struggling closer another shot back in the majors after sending him down for a Triple-A refresher stint. After a couple of weeks down in the minors, the Giants are calling Camilo Doval back up to the MLB roster per Andrew Baggarly of The Atheltic. Things had gotten bad enough for Doval that it only seemed fitting to send him down. Fans and media members alike were calling for the team to trade him ahead of the MLB trade deadline.
SF Giants recall closer Camilo Doval from Triple-A
The Giants welcomed back Camilo Doval Saturday. An All-Star closer in 2022, Doval was optioned to Sacramento on Aug. 9 after a run of ineffective outings saw his earned run average balloon to 4.70 and included five blown saves. Doval is available out of the bullpen as the Giants visit the Seattle Mariners after losing 6-5 in 10 innings Friday night. In five games with the River Cats, Doval was 1-0 with a 3.18 earned run average with one walk and seven strikeouts. Given that Doval had walked 29 batters in 44 innings this season, the reduced walk total is considered encouraging. The Giants announced the move before Saturday's game against Seattle. With closer Ryan Walker likely unavailable after
Giants planning huge Camilo Doval roster move
The San Francisco Giants are reportedly planning to promote reliever Camilo Doval on Saturday, per Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic. Doval, 27, was previously optioned by San Francisco amid his difficult 2024 season. Doval's regression was unexpected following his impressive 2023 campaign. There are other Giants to blame for the team's mediocre performance, but Doval's struggles certainly did not help matters.
San Francisco Giants Playoff Chances Feels 'Insurmountable' Due to Schedule
The past five games offered the San Francisco Giants an excellent opportunity to catch some of the teams ahead of them in the National League Wild Card. Unfortunately, in typical fashion for much of the year, the Giants didn't get the job done. San Francisco hasn't proven throughout the campaign to be a legitimate playoff team, but they're also one of those teams who could get in and make some noise. "There hasn't been a better one-two pitching punch over the past month than Blake Snell and Logan Webb, but having the toughest remaining schedule among NL teams makes what is already an uphill climb feel almost insurmountable."
Deadspin | After winning new manager's debut, M's aim to top Giants again
When the Seattle Mariners fired manager Scott Servais on Thursday, president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto stressed the need for "a different voice and a different direction." It took seven innings of Dan Wilson's managerial debut Friday night, but the Mariners finally started listening. The three-game interleague series continues Saturday afternoon, with Seattle native Blake Snell scheduled to take the mound for San Francisco.

Giants' bullpen falters again in disastrous eighth inning vs. Mariners
The Giants can expect their bullpen to be heavily scrutinized over the final five weeks of the season, especially after Friday's painful implosion in Seattle. Tyler Rogers, who has pitched in more games than any other MLB reliever this season, suffered through an inexplicable, brutal and rare (for him) eighth inning that opened the door for the Mariners' comeback 6-5 win on Friday at T-Mobile Park. Prior to that, the 33-year-old reliever had been one of San Francisco's safest and most reliable go-to guys out of the bullpen. Of his 64 appearances this season before Friday, Rogers had not allowed a hit in 30 of them – nearly 47 percent of the time.
Leo Rivas' RBI single in 10th caps Mariners' rally past Giants
Rookie Leo Rivas lined a run-scoring single to center field with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Seattle Mariners rallied for a 6-5 victory against the visiting San Francisco Giants on Friday night in Dan Wilson's managerial debut. Luke Raley homered and drove in the tying run in the eighth for the Mariners, who won for just the second time in their past 10 games. Wilson, who caught more games than any other player in franchise history, took over after Scott Servais was fired Thursday. LaMonte Wade Jr., Michael Conforto and Heliot Ramos homered for the Giants.
What we learned as Giants' late collapse leads to extra-innings loss
If the Giants (65-65) fall short in their quest for the playoffs, Friday's game in Seattle is one that they will look back on painfully for a long time. San Francisco broke out the big bats early and seemingly was cruising to a victory to kick off their road trip in the Pacific Northwest only to see it all fall apart after blowing a four-run lead in the sixth inning and then losing 6-5 in 10 innings. Despite crushing three home runs, all magnificent blasts, the Giants combined to strike out a whopping 18 times. The bullpen handled Birdsong's early exit fairly well until the eighth inning when the Mariners (65-64) jumped all over Tyler Rogers, wiping out a 5-1 San Francisco lead.

San Francisco Giants Sign Son of MLB Legend to Minor League Deal
With just over a month remaining in the regular season, the San Francisco Giants have their work cut out for them if they are going to get into the playoffs. Fighting an uphill battle since early in the year, the front office's decision to not sell off assets at the trade deadline puts that much more pressure on this team to get hot and secure one of the three Wild Card spots. Injuries have played a factor throughout their season, something they're still dealing with right now as their starting catcher Patrick Bailey is on the injured list. To combat that, they went out and signed veteran Andrew Knapp to be a placeholder, giving him the start in an important matchup on Friday against the Seattle Mariners.
Why Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald will upset Pirates' Paul Skenes in the NL ROY race
As the National League Rookie of the Year race heats up, the spotlight has primarily been on Paul Skenes, the Pittsburgh Pirates' 2023 number-one overall pick and the ace of their staff. While Skenes has dazzled with his pitching prowess, Fitzgerald's impressive all-around performance and significant contributions to the Giants' struggling and inconsistent lineup are hard to ignore. Despite the formidable competition, Fitzgerald should be considered a serious contender for the NL ROY award. Fitzgerald's offensive stats are nothing short of remarkable.
