Giants to honor 2014 team's unlikely to be duplicated title run
There's no way for one man to win a title in baseball, but the 2014 Giants got about as close as any team could get. Madison Bumgarner threw 52 2/3 dominant innings that postseason, including the final five of the World Series in a legendary Game 7 performance. "It was such a team," Flannery said Thursday. Bumgarner was the hero of Game 7, but it took a gutsy effort from Jeremy Affeldt to get the ball to him.
San Francisco Giants Fan Favorite Named 'Most Likely' to Be Traded in Offseason
The San Francisco Giants are now over .500, which is a promising sign as this team has played better over their last 10 games. After a rough start to the season for multiple reasons, the Giants are a team to watch out for. This is a ball club filled with veteran talent and if they play how they have throughout their past 10 games for the remainder of the year, there's a very good chance that they'll make noise in the postseason. It might be wise to pump the brakes a little bit on some of those takes, but San Francisco has enough talent to figure things out.
Conforto's Clutch Hit in 10th Inning Helps Giants to Win Over Nationals
Michael Conforto's two-run single highlighted a four-run 10th inning and the San Francisco Giants beat the Washington Nationals 9-5 on Thursday after squandering a three-run lead in the ninth inning. Mike Yastrzemski grounded up the middle leading off the tenth against Robert Garcia (2-4). On the play, shortstop CJ Abrams threw wide to third attempting to get designated runner Jerar Encarnacion, and both runners were safe. Patrick Bailey then dropped a bunt that Garcia fielded and tried for an out at third, but Ildemaro Vargas dropped the throw.
Decision on San Francisco Giants Executive Will Be Determined by Season Results
The San Francisco Giants surprised a lot of people when they didn't become sellers at the trade deadline despite clearly having an uphill battle to get into the playoffs this year. Instead of moving some of their most attractive assets, including Blake Snell who multiple teams were interested in acquiring, the front office decided to dig their heels in and plow ahead with the goal of making the postseason. The Giants are three games back of the final Wild Card spot, and with the way Snell has started to pitch recently, combined with former Cy Young winner Robbie Ray returning to the mound and Logan Webb putting in good outings, this is the best they've looked all year. If San Francisco is able to get themselves into the playoffs, then their decision to keep this group intact will make it look like the front office was miles ahead of all those who thought they should sell.
Giants' Mark Canha heating up ahead of clash vs. Tigers
The San Francisco Giants will have an opportunity to trot out their newest player in front of the home fans, but he won't need any introduction to the visiting Detroit Tigers on Friday night when the clubs open a three-game series. Mark Canha will return to the Bay Area as the Giants bid to build on a successful trip to Cincinnati and Washington with a fifth consecutive series against an opponent with a losing record. San Francisco acquired Canha, a former member of the Oakland Athletics, at the trade deadline from Detroit after he'd hit just .231 with seven home runs in 93 games in his first season for the Tigers. Detroit received 21-year-old minor-league right-hander Eric Silva in exchange.

After rain delays, Melvin's ejection, SF Giants clinch series win over Nationals
The stakes were so high for the Giants' series finale Thursday afternoon in Washington, D.C., that manager Bob Melvin couldn't have intended to get tossed when he started barking at home plate umpire Stu Scheurwater from the third-base dugout after the fifth batter of the game. Scheurwater's called strike three on Mark Canha was just that egregious. It wasn't just that the 2-2 changeup started high and outside and never came close to the strike zone, or that it came out of the unpredictable left hand of the Nationals' starter, DJ Herz, who had already missed the zone 18 of his first 31 pitches. The Giants were primed to strike early and open an important lead with storms looming and the game threatening to be called at any moment.

Future Giants Reliever Could Become Major League Bargain
The Division II school in Pembroke, N.C., has only produced one Major League player and he made his MLB debut just a month ago. River Ryan, a former pitcher for the program, was called up to start for the Los Angeles Dodgers in a game against the San Francisco Giants. The next UNCP pitcher to get the call may do so for the Giants one day. Trent Harris wasn't even drafted when he came out of UNCP after the 2023 college baseball season.
