San Francisco Giants Farm System Ranking Takes Hit at Midseason
The San Francisco Giants dropped a few spots in ESPN's newest farm system rankings, which were based on the MLB Draft, the trade deadline and system graduates. The Giants' drop, to some degree, is based on a good thing — quality players graduated from their system. Fitzgerald is having a huge second half of the season, while Harrison is a mainstay in the rotation.
Wood Homers, Triples and Scores Four Runs, and the Nationals Beat the Giants
James Wood homered, tripled and scored four runs, and the Washington Nationals erased a quick four-run deficit to beat the San Francisco Giants 11-5 on Tuesday night. Wood also walked twice and stole two bases for the Nationals, who have won three of four after losing five straight. CJ Abrams hit a three-run homer and Keibert Ruiz had three hits including a solo shot for Washington, which finished with 15 hits. Alex Call added a pair of RBI doubles and a walk.
MLB Executives Have Polarizing Takes on San Francisco Giants Trade Deadline Moves
The San Francisco Giants trusted their ball club during the trade deadline, as the front office clearly believes they have enough to make the postseason. It's not too far-fetched of an idea, either, as the Giants are just 4.5 games out of the third Wild Card spot. It's tough to blame them too much for some of the moves they didn't make at the trade deadline. If anything, there could be some criticism about them not trading some of their top veteran players.
Fresh off no-hitter, Giants' Blake Snell aims to jolt Nationals
What does Blake Snell have in store for an encore? Last Friday in Cincinnati, Snell threw his first career complete game in a no-hitter against the Reds. The San Francisco Giants left-hander struck out 11 and allowed three walks to pick up his first victory of the season as the Giants won 3-0. Snell (1-3, 4.29 ERA) will look to author another strong performance on Wednesday evening when the Giants play the third contest of their four-game series against the host Washington Nationals.

Giants' Bob Melvin gets brutally honest about culprit behind loss to Nationals
Try as the San Francisco Giants might to hang in the playoff race, losses like the 11-5 defeat they suffered against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday won't help matters whatsoever. The Giants could not have started the game off on a much better note; they scored four in the top of the first inning courtesy of a solo shot from Heliot Ramos and a three-run dinger from Michael Conforto. Giants starting pitcher Hayden Birdsong allowed seven total earned runs — more than double the number of outs he got on the night. Bob Melvin had a quick leash on the rookie, pulling him from the game after allowing a home run and walking a batter to start the third inning, and after the game, the Giants manager expressed his frustration over what was a disastrous outing from the rookie.

San Francisco Giants Trade Deadline Questioned By Rival Execs
The San Francisco Giants did make a ton of moves at the MLB trade deadline which was questioned on it's own, but the move they did make might have been even more confusing to some. In recapping the deadline moves, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com spoke to executives around the league to see what they thought of the action. The Giants were one of the teams that came up a couple of times, but for different reasons. “If you're the [Detroit] Tigers or [San Francisco], you can squint and see a path to contention over the next couple years because they have good resources and some good young players."
MLB Writer Not High on San Francisco Giants in NL Wild Card Race
The San Francisco Giants made some decisions ahead of the 2024 MLB trade deadline that stirred up plenty of debate. The Giants made a few deals ahead of the deadline, sending Jorge Soler and Luke Jackson to the Atlanta Braves and Alex Cobb to the Cleveland Guardians. Another one was made to acquire veteran outfielder/first baseman Mark Canha. The biggest takeaway for San Francisco was that they took starting pitcher Blake Snell off the market.

Giants ace discusses why his free agency took so long last offseason
The San Francisco Giants landed the top pitcher on the free agent market in the offseason when they signed reigning National League Cy Young winner Blake Snell. On Foul Territory, the veteran left-hander discussed his free agency and why he thought it took so long. "They didn't really do a good job trying to get to know me," Snell said. Snell could be telling the truth about teams potentially having a false image of him.
